Three Wall Serve

Auden Lincoln-Vogel, Stephanie Miracle, & Philip Rabalai

Filmed in the UI Fieldhouse racquetball courts, this site-specific dance piece re-imagines the rules of sports, and the relationship between body and environment, exploding the viewer's sense of space into a kaleidoscopic collage.

Stephanie Miracle (choreographer) and Auden Lincoln-Vogel (cinematographer) have collaborated on several site-specific dance films in Iowa City, including 'Mammal Hall' at the UI Museum of Natural History, and 'Hyperdistanced' at the IMU parking garage. Philip Rabalais (sound design) is a Fairfield-based filmmaker and electronic musician joining the collaboration.

Uncharted Myths: Reckonings, Reflections, and Riffs on American Storie

Writers from the annual International Writing Program (IWP) fall residency will provide written texts as inspiration for University of Iowa dance students to choreograph new work, resulting in a performance at Infinite Dream. This longstanding collaboration between the IWP and Dance explores interdisciplinary practices across literature and movement and, over the years, has become an annual tradition at the University of Iowa. Dance faculty member Christopher-Rasheem McMillan will steward this remarkable collaboration as part of The Contemporary Dance Scene fall course—exposing students, visiting writers, and our overall community to the breadth, tensions, and joys of the creative process.

FREE and OPEN to the public

Mascaradas

This dance explores the role of the woman within the Spanish surrealist movement. Through an exploration of automatic writing and an ekphrasis of the body, the dance investigates how the woman is represented in Tres jóvenes mujeres surrealistas que sostienen en sus brazos las pieles de una orquestra (Salvador Dalí, 1936) and Escaparate (maniquís) (Maruja Mallo, 1928).

Salvage Rituals (WIP)

Tim Smith-Stewart & Jeffrey Azevedo

“This work-in-progress showing invites the audience into the first iteration of an ongoing community practice and dance party. Born from a private ritual to mourn friends very much alive but lost to unsupported neurodivergence and addiction, Salvage Rituals is interested in the potential of communal ritual intersecting with DIY engineering as an embodied practice of mutualism/mutual aid. A rigorous movement score takes place on a hexagonal platform constructed of piezoelectric tiles, which transforms the mechanical stress from the performers' bodies into electrical current, actively powering the stage lights.”

A Time to Tell

“Climate change – its effects on our planet, the current white-hot debate of its very existence, the promise that there is still time to change its course, the nagging feeling in the populace that time has run out – is arguably the most important, universal, global issue of our current moment.

Rewritten and retooled for its world premiere, Time to Tell is a fast-paced hybrid performance event that seeks to create an intimate but immediate experiential space to have a problematized conversation with its audience. Because, really:

It’s time to #talkaboutourfuture.”

A Crack in the Noise

A Crack in the Noise

A Crack In The Noise is a reflection of the humanitarian crisis of refugees. The Three Yells hope this project can lead to greater consciousness, support and healing. In our country, immigrants have always been under attack, but today even our highest ranking officials give power to what used to be fringe voices. A Crack In The Noise is a collaborative artwork strengthened by different genres, showing what can be accomplished when differences unite rather than divide. This work expresses the hope, survival and desperation of a journey reflected in the poignant words of poet, Warsan Shire:

no one leaves home unless
home is the mouth of a shark
you only run for the border
when you see the whole city running as well
